Diablo III Announcement

Tags: Gaming

Quite a few late nights were spent playing Diablo II. On June the 28th in Paris, Blizzard announced the latest update to this classic game. So far they have two character classes for us to drool over with a total of 5 all together. I'm really excited for this game although Starcraft II is in my number one spot for most anticipated games. Take a look at the intro trailer.   19 minutes of game-play goodness

How to Win Friends and Influence People

Tags: Review, Self-Improvement

Although this book was written in the 1930's Dale Carnegie book how to win friends and influence people is a masterpiece on human relations. The key points in his book still hold sway today.   If you are a shy person, or even someone that is out going you will find great nuggets of wisdom in this book. After reading the book, I have tried to implement some of his key techniques, with varied success. I consider the key points in his book common sense, but very few people use these techniques consistently, if at all.   Here are the key points from his book. Fundamental Techniques in Handling People Don't criticize, condemn or complain "Give honest and sincere appreciation." "Arouse in the other person an eager want." Six Ways to Make People Like You "Become genuinely interested in other people." "Smile." "Remember that a man's name is to him the sweetest and most important sound in any language." "Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves." "Talk in the terms of the other man's interest." "Make the other person feel important and do it sincerely." Twelve Ways to Win People to Your Way of Thinking "Avoid arguments." "Show respect for the other person's opinions. Never tell someone they are wrong." "If you're wrong, admit it quickly ...

Why Am I Not Suprised - Obama Button

Tags: Politics, Race

At the Texan Republican convention there was booth hosted by the Republicanmarket that was selling an assortment of items. One of the buttons said “If Obama is President… will we still call it The White House? There has been a lot of talk about this, a lot of people were offended. Do you find this button offensive? Personally, I’m am not surprised by this or overly offended. Where there is differences between people there will be distrust, and fear. We see this in every level in society. Look this country is still quite divided, instead of open debate. Issues of race are kept under the radar. It’s sad that there are numerous amounts of people who would not like to see a black president. Its sad to see that their are people that will put color, or a persons sex above, qualifications. I say where the button! At least I know where you are coming from. On the other hand this is blatant. A Marietta bar owner was selling T-Shirts that had a picture of curious George holding a banana and in large copy it said Obama in 08. There was a poll on Croooksandlairs, the results was 41% were not offended by ...

Nephew Tommy Stand-up

Tags: Review

My wife really enjoys listening to the Steve Harvey morning show, I prefer NPR. One of the hosts is Nephew Tommy. His back and forth banter with Steve Harvey is entertaining. With that said we went to see his stand up show at the Miami Improve on Saturday. His show was sold out, but luckily we were able to get seats very close to the stage.    His show was very good. His energy was infectious... to the point I was laughing when I didn't have a clue what he was saying, but his energy and deliver were impeccable.  His standup consisted of current events through the eyes of the black community, and their general feelings to such events. He talked a bit about relationships, and some good old slapstick humor, with a pinch of sexual innuendoes to spice things up.    I would say if you like Steve Harvey or Cedric the Entertainer, you will like his style of comedy.   Would I go see him again when he has new material, I would say yes.

Gastric Bypass Tips

Tags: Family, Health

My dad has to get the Heller Toupet procedure and their are many things he has to take care of before he can get that done. Before my Dad could get to see the specialist who was going to perform the Heller Toupet procedure we had to sit through a 2 hour orientation. I was running late because we got a tad lost trying to find the hospital. After a little while of searching and asking around we found out where the orientation was taking place. We entered into the dimly lit room where the Doctor was giving his presentation. I looked around and thought something is not right, 90% of the people are really way overweight and the Doctor was talking about Gastric Bypass. All these thoughts started to run through my head. Was I in the wrong room?  No way is my Dad going to have to partake in that procedure, should I just leave? Well I decided to stay, and I'm glad I did.  I now know quite a bit about Gastric Bypass, and the life altering operation they will have to go through. Here are some of the things I learnt: Before the operation will take place you will go ...

iphone 3G 8GB for $199!

Tags: iphone, Technology

I was riveted to macrumorslive.com who are doing live coverage of the Worldwide Developer Conference. I was follow Steve Job keynote announments and waiting patiently for the iphone specific info. The most exciting news for me is the price cut to $199. That's a great price, and a lot more people will jump on the band wagon and get one of these phones. So the plus and minus for me are this: Plus $199 for 8GB, $299 for 16GB Finally A-GPS Geotagging of photos Now you have 3g much, much faster than Edge Increased battery life Exchange Support Negative Still no support for MMS Still no Copy or Past AT&T going to charge $10 more for data plan Have to re-up my contract No support for N I'm more than likely going to get one, although I'm still conflicted, and the biggest hurdle is convincing my wife. Any tips?

Heller Toupet Procedure

Tags: Family, Health

My dad is having an operation on Thursday, he is having a Heller-Toupet procedure. Ha has been suffering from Achalasia, which is a rare primary esophageal motor disorder. The lower esophageal sphincter is not able to relax. This results in regurgitation, aspiration, chest pain, and weight loss.  My pops has suffered a lot. He has lot 30 pounds and I’m not accustomed to seeing my pops in a weakened state.  I’m glad that they are finally having a procedure and will hopefully be able to have a real meal and gain some of his weight back.

The Secret Is Out Bush

Tags: Politics

The headline yesterday morning in the UK's "The Independent: "Bush wants 50 military bases, control of Iraqi airspace and legal immunity for all American soldiers and contractors. A secret deal being negotiated in Baghdad would perpetuate the American military occupation of Iraq indefinitely, regardless of the outcome of the US presidential election in November. This is a terrible idea, I really hope this does not come to pass. Read the full article.

Obama Wins - Does he have the right C’s?

Tags: Commentary, Politics

Obama wins nomination what a great day! This is the first time a brother received the ticket to lead a majority party. I am proud that he made it. You could say its a sign of progress maybe... For me though how he stands on issues is considerably more important than race. Prime example is Condoleezza Rice. Her accomplishments are admiral and I respect that immensely. My main beef with her is. Look at who she works for and supports. Was she able to avert the wars that we are currently in, or encourage it? Has she been able to create good will and broker peace across the world? No on all accounts! Where was she on Martin Luther King's birthday, on January 15th 2003, when George Bush declared the University of Michigan law school's affirmative action program unconstitutional? Where was her outcry? Please give me a break, she does not represent me. I like Obama, he believes in change. Hope won out over fear. New won out over old. If you look at his record he was able to cross the other side and get things done. We sorely need it at this time. We sorely need a good leader. According to Lee Iacocca's book, ...

Great Interior Design - Sneak Peak

Tags: Design

I appreciate great design no matter what form. In this case it is a split level ranch house designed by Jessica Helgerson Interior Design. I first saw the great interior at Design Sponge. I'm amazed at what she was able to do with that space. The touches of green that she used in her color palette are impeccable. Similar to my sense of aesthetics when it comes to web design, clean lines, use of color sparingly, and an underlying sense of order. This interior hits the same philosophy! She was able to bring the airy spring feeling into that space. Where does the interior stop and where does the outside begin? One space seamlessly flows into the next. I would love to live in that home. Unfortunately it is not the most kid friendly environment and some how my xbox 360 would look out of place. What kinda of space would you like to wake up to?
